“Women today are fed up. What used to be the stuff of comedy– the harried mom in sweatpants and the messy bun–just isn’t funny anymore”- Mommy Burnout book flap
I know I was doing so well getting post up on time, but I got sucked into a series 7 binge watch of Call the Midwife ( I don’t know about the way these season ended) we all know how a binge happens, oh well. No harm no fowl. So today for I bring you a book review.
Okay I’m going to be completely honest here I grabbed this book off the shelf at the locale library because I was trying to find books before my kids went crazy. I figured if it was bad no big deal I had 3 other books to read while we were camping. Yes that’s right it took my almost a month to read this book, I’m saddened by this. In high school I was a book a week kind of girl, but well kids.
This book was great, it was so true and it was amazing to learn that as a mom I’m not alone in feeling burned out. I love my kids and I love getting to have the privilege of being a Stay at Home mom. But some days it’s hard.
This book starts by talking about what burn out looks like, she has a list at the beginning of the first chapter that literally is like the motherhood check list. Here are some of the things on it:
- You have trouble falling asleep, or staying asleep
- You beat yourself up for parenting decisions and choices that you make
- You reach for junk food too often or go whole days without eating a real meal
- You have little or no interest in sex
- You can’t remember the last time you did something just for you
- You feel like you’re in a bad mood, or snap at your kids often
- Once in a while you just sit alone and cry because you fell overwhelmed
This happen to be my personal favorites but she has a bunch of others. Is there any mom out there that doesn’t experience so of these? No seriously do any of you moms out there not experience these? Because if so you are my hero, or you a lying to yourself.
Dr. Ziegler literally covers everything from wondering what happened to your friends to what you you are doing with your life, and whether or not your kids are burned out too. At the end of each chapter she has her Mommy Burnout Prescription Plan, which is great for helping you regain control of your life, and be happier.
I could probably got on about this book forever, but really you are just better off reading it. It literal was a game changer for me. I loved everything about it, and I give it a five star review. All of you moms out there should read this. It’s worth your time, no doubt about it. Here is a link go buy it trust me your won’t regret it Mommy Burnout Dr. Sheryl Ziegler.
